Meadowbrook Playfield is another one of these community recreation hubs that so many Seattle neighborhoods are lucky to have. In addition to the 18-acre park, there’s a swimming pool and community center that offer all kinds of activities.

Adjacent to Nathan Hale High School just off Lake City Way, this park will keep people of all ages busy. Start your visit by parking at the southwest corner of the park on N.E. 105th St. This quiet end of the park is the least used, but offers great views of the park below. Follow the meadow (get it, Meadowbrook? we’ll get to the brook later) down toward the main part of the park, and you’ll see a large lighted tennis complex.

Past the tennis courts are several baseball and softball fields. On the far end of the park is a large children’s play area, which was absolutely packed on the sunny day I visited. Most of the kids were busy on the cool play equipment, but a handful had discovered the stream that runs right through the park dividing it from the high school.

Forget the playground, these kids were happy to dig in the dirt and watch the water roll by.
