Location: Central Seattle
Address: 2161 E. Hamlin St.
Acreage: 1.5

I thought McCurdy Park had to be one of Seattle’s least likely locations for a park.

I found it on accident while crossing 520 on 24th Ave. near MOHAI. I definitely wouldn’t have known it was a park except for the Parks Department sign that was partially spray painted. From the placement of the sign, it looked like the park was a little strip of grass overlooking 520. It sure didn’t seem like a very accessible park.

After coming back home I realized that the park’s sign wasn’t really doing its job. McCurdy Park actually includes the land on which MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry) sits.

So, apparently McCurdy Park has more going for it than at first glance. In fact, there’s even some waterfront access and paths that connect to the Arboretum.

I’ll have to return and take a closer look next time.
