This cozy green space opened in 2019 next door to the Greenwood Library branch. The well-designed park has all the features of a great neighborhood hangout with an inviting lawn, patio with bright red bistro tables, benches and curving paved path that’s lined with native plans.
A nice touch is the micro-trail with wood chips under foot that creates a little nature area at the south side of the park and provides protection from the side street. You’ll also find a little “digging area” for tots.
The park is named after a really inspiring scientist who isn’t well known in Seattle history. Alice Ball was born in Seattle in 1892 and only lived to age 24. As a black woman, she blazed new paths in science and discovered an effective treatment for leprosy while in her 20s. Learn more about Alice Ball’s short and fascinating life here.
