Vashon has dozens of fantastic parks, some on the waterfront like this one and this one, and others tucked away in the forest like Judd Creek Preserve.

You’ll find a fantastic short loop trail that winds through the mostly deciduous trees, crossing the creek a few times with little foot bridges. This is a very kid-friendly outing with lots of interesting things to see. We spotted a huge ant hill, many impressive banana slugs and the first almost-ripe salmon berries of the season.

Judd Creek is one of two streams on Vashon Island that annually support salmon. (The other is Shingle Mill Creek.) You can help in the effort to spot salmon returning in the fall with the SalmonWatchers program. This is also a great spot for birding on the island.

Finding the park is a little confusing, and it has two separate stretches on opposite sides of 11th Street. The best best and easiest access is about halfway between S.W. 204th and S.W. 220th. A good map is here.
