Bell Street Park

Bell Street Park

Location: Downtown Seattle/Belltown
Address: Bell St. and 1st Ave. to Bell St. and 5th Ave.
Acreage: approx. 1.5 (when complete)

It’s exciting to see when pedestrian-friendly park space can be carved out of dense urban areas without having to acquire land. The first phase of the Bell Street Park in downtown Seattle just opened, and while it’s not much yet, this project has a lot of potential.

When it’s complete, people will be able to stroll up Bell St. from 1st Ave. to 5th Ave. on a wide tree-lined pedestrian space with plenty of places to linger along the way. Only the 1st Ave. to 2nd Ave. stretch is opened so far, and you’ll mostly see a few small trees cordoned off by orange netting, but you can get a sense for how nice this park will be for the Belltown neighborhood.

New trees, shrubs, hardscape and public art are in the works. One lane will still be open to traffic with safe pedestrian access on both sides. The full project is slated to be complete this winter.
