Cama Beach State Park’s long stretch of gorgeous waterfront is worth a day trip. But you can do even better and rent a rustic cabin on the beach and take the time to really enjoy this great park.

Most of Cama Beach State Park is forested, and hikers will find 15 miles of trails including one that connects to nearby Camano Island State Park one mile away. Active vacationers will find boating, fishing and swimming. Kids will love the weekend boat building workshops through the Center for Wooden Boats, plus swings, a horseshoe pit and plenty of space for digging in the sand. For the beachcombers/relaxers, you won’t need more than a beach chair to enjoy the views of Saratoga Passage.

The park has an interesting history as a private family-owned resort that operated for decades beginning in the 1930s. Thankfully, instead of being sold to developers it was converted to a state park in the 1990s.

Summer is a great time to make a trip to Cama Beach.
