It’s fun to see new parks popping up in neighborhoods around the city. Kirke Park in the Whittier Heights/Greenwood area is one of the best I’ve stumbled upon recently.

So new that the grass is still off limits to footsteps, this park has a wonderful wooden play structure, a short path for strolling, benches and picnic tables, nice native plantings and a P-Patch.

Even on a rainy Saturday morning, a family was enjoying this new park. From here, you can also walk to Crown Hill Park, 6th Avenue NW Pocket Park and Salmon Bay Park.

Kirke is Norwegian for church and pays homage to the church that sat in this spot for 90 years.
