South Beacon Hill residents have it all in Van Asselt Playground. You’ll find tennis courts, basketball courts, great playfields, summer wading pool, new playground and a beautiful community center. Henry Van Asselt was a Dutch settler who arrived in Seattle in the 1850s. According to Wikipedia, he was the longest surviving original settler in King County (living to age 85, quite a feat in itself in that day.) The nearby Van Asselt Elementary School sits on the site of the first school in King County, which Van Asselt donated the land to establish.
