Hiawatha Playfield

Hiawatha Playfield

Location: West Seattle
Address: 2700 California Ave. S.W.
Acreage: 10.3

In 1911 the Hiawatha Playfield (first called the West Seattle Playfield) was opened as the largest playfield in Seattle. The Olmsted brothers had a hand in the early design.

It’s still a popular park today with a great location in West Seattle’s Admiral neighborhood between West Seattle High School and Lafayette Elementary School. There’s a summer wading pool, playground, tennis courts, basketball courts and even a track, which is rare at Seattle parks.

The Hiawatha Community Center located at the park has fun programs for residents of all ages. My family is a fan of the toddler play time that takes place midday on Thursdays. At $2 per child, you can’t beat the price for having a big space filled with toys to let your little one to run off that boundless energy.
