Kobe Terrace was a surprising find on my walk today. I thought I had seen almost every street in this part of the city, but this park was a new discovery for me.

Earning its “terrace” title, you have to climb up either a steep street (S. Washington St.) or climb through the tiered gardens from S. Main St. to reach this park.

It’s totally worth it.

The park has nice views of south Seattle and even Mt. Rainier on a clear day. It is lined with cherry trees that were a gift from Seattle’s Japanese sister city, for which the park was named. They also gave us the enormous stone lantern, which is more than 200 years old.

Stand on the edge of one of the viewing platforms, and you’ll see the Danny Woo Community Garden. This is a peaceful park to stroll or picnic.
