Location: Central Seattle/Madison Park
Address: 1075 Lake Washington Blvd. E.
Acreage: 3.5

Located inside Washington Arboretum Park, the Japanese Garden is one of the few places on city property where you have to pay a fee to enter. But it’s worth the $5 to see this garden that was designed by Japanese garden designer Juki Iida.

Japanese gardens are typically created to make visitors feel an immediate sense of calm. This garden achieves that by leading visitors along simple gravel paths with neatly trimmed plants and trees arranged with care to please the eye. The best viewing spots are around the large pond in the center of the garden where you’ll see a handful of large koi swimming in the murky water.

The garden closes for winter. If you’re planning a visit, go soon… you’ll catch the maples in spectacular red colors.
