West Queen Anne Playfield

West Queen Anne Playfield

Location: Queen Anne/Central Seattle
Address: 150 W. Blaine St.
Acreage: 6.2

The West Queen Anne Playfield acts like the heart of the Queen Anne neighborhood. It sits just a block or so off the quaint commercial center, across the street from the local indoor swimming pool and adjacent to the community center. You could do worse than spend your childhood growing up in Queen Anne.

But, alas. It’s still a good place for non-residents to hang out.

It’s a wonderful park for kids, with a sloping hill and plenty of grassy areas to play pick-up games of soccer or baseball. The playground is packed with tots of all ages on a gray afternoon. I especially like that there is a smaller play structure next to the big one designed for smaller kids in mind. A great idea by the planners to keep the littlest ones safe. The playground area also has several benches, a couple of picnic tables and is partially wheelchair accessible.

Three large baseball/softball fields make up the rest of the park. One of the three is even set up with some bleachers and a large scoreboard.

As I take the path out of the park, four boys run past me yelling, “Mom, can we pleeease play baseball now?” Ah, it’s a rough life.
