Tucked behind Aki Kurose Elementary School close to Martin Luther King Way, Brighton Playfield is one of those great neighborhood parks that is mostly unknown outside its immediate community. But, Brighton is a lovely playfield with plenty of space for all kinds of play by people of all ages.

A large, well-cared-for ball field with bleachers is the main feature of the park. I can picture the park packed with people on a Saturday morning with a rec baseball game in full swing. You’ll also find tennis courts and a small play area for kids including swings.

My favorite aspect of this park is the nice shade around the perimeter of the park, thanks to large leafy trees. The city has recently planted even more trees to further extend the shade. This play field is a great place to pause on a warm day.
