A great outing with kids in West Seattle starts at Roxhill Park.
Let them explore the large playground that’s constructed entirely out of wood. It’s fun to see a playground that’s different from the others, and the kids I’ve watched at this park love exploring all the passageways and hiding places.
After they’ve had time to play, take a walk following Longfellow Creek, a greenspace that starts at Roxhill Park and goes for several miles. Follow the winding trails that crisscross the creek over small footbridges.
As this is preserved wetland, have kids keep their eyes out for wildlife. Try to spot salamanders and the wide variety of birds that like this quiet part of West Seattle.

Are the Longfellow Creek trails stroller friendly?
I went to this park today with my 2 1/2 year old (May, 2013). Since your review the Parks Dept. demolished the old play structure and built a brand new one that opened in late April. They also built a new skatepark next to the playground.
I didn’t explore much past the playground but if you have a kid that’s a climber this is a great playground. There is a smaller “castle” with a slide and a nice sand pit for the toddlers. But this new playground is probably best for a 4 year old that likes climbing walls and rope mazes. I was impressed. It also has a very nice picnic area next to it with bbq pits. In a year or two I’ll be back when my kid can take advantage of the stuff just outside his age group and we can bbq.
