If you’re looking for some space to run that rambunctious dog of yours, check out Westcrest on the eastern side of West Seattle.

There’s no need to worry about your overly excited pet mowing over littler ones in the four-acre dog park that makes up part of this large park. A separate “shy dog” area allows all breeds to enjoy the space. There’s also plenty of variety at this dog park. You’ll find an open grass area, plus a nice circuit of trails for longer walks. A very dedicated group of dog owners keeps the dog park in great condition.

The rest of the park offers more walking trails and some picnicking areas. Kids may like the small playground and grass field perfect for kicking around a soccer ball. Pause at the highest point of the park for a view of south Seattle and the Cascade foothills.

This map will show you the extent of these quiet trails, some of which feel a little too remote if you’re by yourself. The park has previously gotten a bad reputation for some visitors’ behavior.

I hate to see a large park like Westcrest not getting used because of the actions of a few. Check it out yourself, and maybe we can all reclaim this nice piece of green in West Seattle.
